The classic action horror game was remastered back in 2021, giving its a fresh lick of graphical paint along the way. While still enjoyable, Black Ops Cold War fails to recapture the magic of Black Ops 1 and 2.”Īlongside that, the inclusion of Alan Wake Remastered is very well timed, given the build up to Alan Wake 2’s release later this year. The campaign is full of underused ideas, while the multiplayer misses some of the magical charm of Modern Warfare, opting for faster paced aggressive battles which just don’t feel as satisfying. Oh well.In our review, Nick said, “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a decent entry in the series, but it feels like it doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. But it’s a big deal to those of us do, and pretty much means I’ll be sticking to Modern Warfare MP when it comes to game time with the kids. This is definitely not the biggest issue in the world and won’t impact plenty of players who never play in split-screen. I am enjoying Cold War more than I expected to, however, so it’s not all doom and gloom. I hope for, but certainly don’t expect, a fix. As far as I can recall, Black Ops 4 and Black Ops 3 had similar issues (though it was nice that you could play Blackout battle royale in split-screen). This is nothing new when it comes to Treyarch’s games. The hit to screen size and framerate is just too much. I can’t imagine playing split-screen in Black Ops Cold War. I play that with my kids, my brother and sometimes with friends (though mainly we play online) in Modern Warfare all the time and it’s great. It’s basically ruined my excitement for the return of Gunfight mode when Season 1 kicks off. While both WWII and Modern Warfare play just fine in split-screen, there’s a noticeable and distracting framerate drop in Black Ops Cold War. What these images don’t show is the frame-rate.
